Atlanta Falcons – things are changing
As you may well know, the Atlanta Falcons are interviewing for a new coach and one of the likely prospects seems to be Rex Ryan. Heard of him, have you? He is the former head coach of the New York Jets who just happens to be free of contract now. The Falcons board and Ryan had a 5 hour interview which lead a lot of people to believe he is one of the favorites
But this is not the new, hot change, no. The team has announced that several responsibilities will shift their ownership from the general manager Thomas Dimitroff to current assistant GM Scott Pioli. Could we see also a shift of positions? There is no rumor yet however the environment there seems to be quite dynamic.
Pioli will be in charge of the scouting departments – both college and pro- and the team’s drafting process, however he will still be reporting to Dimitroff who will be in charge of the salary cap. This decrease of responsibilities comes as a surprise to Dimitroff especially seeing how owner Arthur Blank has not provided any clear assurance about Dimitroff future with the team. The surprise is even bigger seeing how he has won the title Executive-Of-The-Year twice.
Even though Pioli is currently in charge of the scouting and drafting Blank said that this is not linked with the search for a new head coach. He also stated that the scouting responsibility may be divided between the three: coach, GM and assistant GM.
