Martellus Bennett Expected To Feature During Bears Minicamp
Bears fans will not have to wait any longer so as to see their tight end Martellus Bennett back with the team. According to various sources, Bennett will be able to feature during the bears mandatory minicamp which is set to begin this week. He is expected to undergo all the necessary steps before officially becoming a Bear player and this includes a physical that he was expected to undertake earlier this week.
This will be the first time that Bennett will be working out with the team after he failed to turn up for the team’s voluntary program that was organized during the offseason. Bennett, who was exceptional during last season finishing off with 90 receptions, missed out on the teams offseason organized voluntary program following a contractual dispute between his manager and the Bears organization. His current Deal with the Bears will see Bennett earning 4.9 million dollars as his base salary for 2015 while he will be earning 5.085 million come 2016.
The move by Bennett to feature in the teams mandatory minicamp which is to start this week goes to contradict earlier reports that he was not going to feature on any Bears activity in an event that he hasn’t signed a new deal with his team. In fact, the coach of the Bears, John Fox, was himself not sure if Bennett will actually be showing up for the team’s mandatory minicamp. Here is what he said with regards to whether Bennett will be featuring the team’s offseason activities.
“I really don’t know, all we can do now is just wait and see what he does next.”
